How to set up your MetaMask Web3 Wallet
Set up and secure MetaMask, step by step
- A smartphone or a desktop browser
- Pen and paper for your recovery phrase
- Two separate safe places to store copies
Download from the official site only
Go to metamask.io and download the app or browser extension from there. Never download from an ad, a search result, or a link someone sent you.
Create a new wallet
Open MetaMask and choose Create a New Wallet. Accept the terms to begin setup.
Set a strong password
Create a password you will remember. This unlocks MetaMask on this device only. It is not your recovery phrase.
Write down your 12 secret words
MetaMask reveals your Secret Recovery Phrase: 12 words in exact order. Write them on paper by hand. Never screenshot them.
Confirm your phrase
MetaMask asks you to re-enter some of the words to prove you saved them correctly. Enter them in the same order.
Add the BNB Smart Chain
In Settings, add the BNB Smart Chain network so your wallet can receive BNB and USDT.
Golden rules: protect your 12 words
- Anyone who has your 12 words owns everything in your wallet.
- Never share them with anyone, for any reason, ever.
- No real support agent will ever ask you for them.
- Never store them as a screenshot, photo, email, or cloud note.
Write them on paper and keep two copies in separate safe places.
